We often think that being a good disciple or following Jesus means doing the things that Jesus did and saying the things that He said. This is part of it, no doubt. But the heart of discipleship is not only imitating Jesus – it is relationship with Jesus. All that we say and do comes out of the overflow of love we have for Christ and the great love He has for us. It starts with knowing Christ and growing in this relationship that God has made us for.
At Crosstowne our Discipleship journey is made up of Mid Week Devotions (MWD) and Monthly Home (Oikos) gatherings.
MWD: Each person/family chooses a series of passages, a book from the Bible, or a devotion and spends time each week quietly reading and reflecting on what God is saying to them about it. During this time we ask ourselves some questions that point to what GOD might be saying and teaching us:
G: Where is the good news in what we read
O: What is God saying in the text?
D: What are we going to do about it?
OIKOS: Every month different groups meet to share what they have been learning over a meal. This time together includes 3 aspects:
Listening: How have you been listening to God and what has He been saying?
Accountability: What are going to do to follow God’s directions and how can we hold you accountable?
Missional Living: How have you connected people with God this week?
